SPORTY TURBO-PETROL VARIANT FOR KIA SP SUV
Concept SUV will be powered by a 140hp, 1.4-litre turbo-petrol motor.
Official launch of the production-spec KIA SP Concept SUV is
scheduled for August this year. We have also been notified that the Korean car maker is also working on a sportier version of the model to that can be
introduced or launched by 2020.
This version of the KIA SP SUV will be differentiated with a
body kit as well as a racier trim on the inside. But this won’t be all, the KIA SP SUV will also get a more powerful engine – of about 140hp, 1.4-litre
turbo-petrol unit. The engine will come mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch
transmission with paddle shifters. KIA is also expected to tune this version’s
suspension for a sportier drive.
For our interest the 140hp, 1.4-litre engine is also likely
to find on future KIA models in India. The premium hatchback
under consideration for India could be one of the models that
feature this engine.
The standard production of SP SUV will be available with two
engine options which is a 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine. These engines could be launched in BS-IV engines.
Manual and torque converter automatic gearbox options will be on offer, paired
to the 1.5-litre engines. Paddle shifters are also expected as standard kit on
higher trims of the automatic models.
Pricing for the standard KIA SP SUV will be competitive,
with KIA having confirmed a Rs 10-16 lakh price band for the model.
KIA is also expected to offer the SP with loads of standard equipment.

What do you think about the sporty version of Kia’s SP SUV would it sell well
in India?
